The Dresden pioneer that invented the 35mm SLR. Founded in 1912 by Dutch businessman Johan Steenbergen as Industrie- und Handelsgesellschaft - shortened to Ihagee from the German pronunciation of IHG, ee-hah-geh, and stamped Jhagee on early bodies. Mastermind engineer Karl Nuechterlein created the 1933 VP Exakta for 127 rollfilm, then the 1936 Kine Exakta, the world's first production 35mm SLR with trapezoidal alloy body. Its legendary quirks: left-handed shutter release, massive 300-degree wind lever, cloth shutter 12s-1/1000, and folding waist-level finder that locks shutter when closed. Crown jewels: Exakta Varex 1950 with first interchangeable pentaprism.
