Zeiss Ikon is a German company formed in 1926 by the merger of four camera makers - Contessa-Nettel, Ernemann, Goerz and Ica - with capital from Zeiss. Part of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, it became a leading maker of cameras including Contax, Contaflex, Super Ikonta and Nettar, and 8mm movie cameras. After WWII it split into East and West German operations, ceased camera production in 1972, and was revived in 2004 for the Zeiss Ikon ZM rangefinder built by Cosina.
